KEIGHLEY Albion under-nines earned success for Yorkshire as they won the Chorley Festival.

Albion were the only representative from the White Rose and they did their county proud by beating all six of their Lancashire rivals.

They included strong amateur club Wigan St Judes, hosts Chorley Panthers, plus Hindley, Limehurst Lions, Heysham Atoms and Chester Gladiators.

Albion started the tournament with a good 20-8 win against Wigan side Hindley before beating Chorley Panthers 20-4.

With their confidence up, Keighley secured a third success against Limehurst Lions, winning 16-8, and they overcame Heysham Atoms by the same margin.

The crunch game came against Wigan St Judes, who had won all their five games and only had to beat Albion to claim the festival.

Keighley took a well-deserved two-try lead, only for Wigan to pull a try back before a brilliant team try for the Yorkshire lads shocked Saints into action. They hit back by scoring in the corner but could not follow this up as Albion's defence stood tall to record a brilliant 12-8 win.

Victory in their last match against Chester Gladiators would secure Keighley the crown but, having put everything into the Wigan game, they started slowly. But they soon got into full gear to claim a 24-16 win to take the trophy and seal a special day.
