KEIGHLEY wrestler Liam Slater fell to defeat last Saturday in front of his home-town crowd at the NGW Anarchy event.

In a fiery clash with Dara Diablo at Victoria Hall, Slater lost after Diablo reversed his top rope cross body into his special move, the Tequila Slammer.

Slater said: “Unfortunately for me, Dara’s strength was too much for my speed and that’s what proved the difference in the end as Diablo is a well built bloke and, on this occasion, speed lost.”

Local boy Slater was quick to praise the fans, despite his defeat: “The fans were exceptional as always in Keighley.

“As a Keighley lad I always receive fantastic support and as a town they love their wrestling, which is why we roll in twice a year for Anarchy and traditionally, a November event.”

But the evening wasn’t over for Slater as he, along with Matt Myers, AJ Anderson and Dan James came to the aid of Nathan Cruz and El Ligero after a vicious attack from Kid Fite, Joe Hendry and Davey Blaze to set up an intriguing cross-border battle.

“New Generation Wrestling is always branching out to increase the roster and we invited a car load of Scottish wrestlers to Keighley for the Anarchy event.

“For whatever reason, they decided to make a statement by attacking Nathan, who is somebody I’ve trained under and one of my closest friends.

“Me and the rest of the English lads did what anybody would when you see a family member being attacked and that is to run to their defence.

“It’s caused a bit of conflict now between Scotland and England and it’s a match the fans want to see. We, as wrestlers, are excited to find out how it will plan out.”
