Cullingworth Youth 4 Menston Town 5

YOUTH gave their best performance of the season yet lost out by the odd goal in nine in a cracker of a game which was a credit to both teams.

It was obvious from the beginning that the team who made best use of the gale-force wind behind them would win and so it proved.

Cullingworth had the advantage of the wind in the first half and scored three goals, had one disallowed and missed more great chances.

Lance Correnge opened the scoring for Youth and Johnathan Clewes, back after being out with a serious injury for 12 months, made it two before Correnge scored his second.

Youth had 80 per cent of the first-half play to lead 3-1 but the hosts, now with the wind at their backs, enjoyed similar dominance after the break.

Menston scored three times to take the lead but, straight from the kick-off after Menston's fourth, Clewes scored to level the match at 4-4.

The points were up for grabs and, five minutes from time, Menston scored the winner. Youth missed a couple of great chances late on which would have earned them a point they so richly deserved.

Such were the performances of all Cullingworth players it would be unfair to name a man of the match. Youth's new keeper, despite letting in five goals, had a great game.

Keighley Town did not play for the third week running, their game at home to Shipley Town being postponed.

Youth are at home to Bingley Young Boys on Sunday, while Town are due to host neighbours Keighley Athletic.
