Keighley Oaks 0 Leeds 15
TRYING to bridge a three-division gap with only 11 players was hard enough for Keighley Oaks at Bronte Playing Fields.
But it became that much harder when midfielder and skipper-for-the-day Becky Granger twisted an ankle five minutes into the second half, leaving the underdogs to play the final 40 minutes with only ten players.
As so often happens in horribly one-sided matches, the losing team's goalkeeper – in this case Laura Thurling – was player of the match, making some fine saves and foiling several one-on-ones.
It was 7-0 at half-time but Oaks manager Steve Brett said: "The girls never stopped trying and played for the full 90 minutes."
With some of their squad returning for this weekend, Premier Division Oaks are confident of winning at First Division Hebden Royd United in the second of the West Riding County Women's League Cup.
