COUGARS coach Paul March is delighted to secure the use of new training facilities at Beckfoot School in Bingley.

Keighley began training on Tuesday and March is pleased that the base will provide them with more flexibility in the event of bad weather. He said: “It’s a new state-of-the-art facility that is now available to use through a sponsorship deal.

“It’s a good base and one we can use all year. Beckfoot will go a long way to make sure we can train at all time, no matter what the weather is.

“They have indoor facilities, a pool, wrestling room, and a 3G pitch. They have it all.”

Meanwhile, March is looking forward to playing alongside twin brother David in the final season of his playing career before he retires.

He said: “We are professional rugby players and everyone wants to win every week.

“To come out on top – if we can do that – would be a great achievement, especially with it being my last year playing. I’ve been trying to get David to Cougars for a long time but he has been happy where he was. Now we have come down a league, he has joined us and he’s a big-game player.

“When big-game players play in big games, they usually produce the goods and I think that’s what David did in the grand final for Hunslet against Oldham at Headingley.

“I think he was a bit wasted at dummy half but once they moved him into the back row, it gave him a bit of freedom and that’s when you saw the best of him. That’s what I’m hoping he will do for us.”
