Worth Village 28 King Cross 14

With Worth Village making eight changes from their last game, they took time to get into their stride against a very good, hard-working side.

Despite the best efforts of man of the match Ricky Leatham, with debutant Joe Copperwaite and Darren McNulty also showing up well in the early stages, it took an interception try from Leatham to break the deadlock and Copperwaite converted.

Only good defensive work from Fabion White and Chris Mahomett kept King Cross at bay. Village then went the length of the field after James Gow beat three men to offload to Danny Spencer, with Ben Ross putting Luke Moorby in under the posts and Copperwaite adding the extras.

King Cross hit back with a well-worked try to trail 12-4 at half-time.

Village scored soon after the break, with Rob Spencer and Sean Knapper both involved for Daz McNulty to score a trademark try from 40 yards out.

King Cross wouldn’t give up and, despite Ross and Danny Spencer making try-saving tackles, the visitors made it 18-10.

However, Johnny Dawkins and Billy McKay made good ground for Chris Parker to put Copperwaite in for a try to extend Worth's lead.

Back came the visitors with a good try out wide but, with Wayne Smith and Sean Snowden showing up well, Village clinched a well-deserved victory as Jason Dovestone made the space for the impressive Leatham to score under the posts and Copperwaite booted the conversion.

Village are at Wyke on Saturday.
