A 31-YEAR old man from Glusburn has escaped an immediate prison sentence for the breach of a restraining order.

Zak Peat sent text messages and emails to Leigh Mason in South Craven between July 15 and August 14, this year, without reasonable excuse and while prohibited from doing so by a harassment restraining order imposed by York Magistrates Court in April 2020.

At York Magistrates Court on August 23, Peat, of Valley View, Glusburn admitted the breach.

Magistrates said the offence was so serious, they were sentencing Peat to eight months in prison, suspended for 18 months. In the 18 month supervision period he must complete up to 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days. He will also have to pay costs of £85 and a surcharge of £156. Magistrates took Peat's guilty plea into account when imposing sentence.
