CADETS in Keighley have drummed up support from the Craven Trust.

The Keighley-based charity gave £950 for the Sea Cadet unit to buy much-needed drum equipment.

They will be used each Wednesday evening by the unit’s drum corps for sessions at their Waddington Street base.

Unit spokesman Corinne Metcalfe said: “We have a small group of cadets who in addition to training on a Tuesday and Thursday evening have committed to train once a week to play the drums.

“Research shows that through music the young are able to connect and express themselves and in turn this can encourage communication and creativity.

“We would like to say a big thank you to Craven Trust for their support.” The Keighley unit has three sections, C Cadets aged from 12 to 18, Royal Marines Cadets aged from 13 to 18, and junior See Cadets aged from 10 to 12.

As well as drumming, the cadets are able to go to sea, learn to sail and do adventure training.
