A DISUSED graveyard in Denholme which holds the tomb of a First World War soldier could be turned into a garden.
The Primitive Methodist burial ground between Halifax Road and Cragg Lane is currently under offer, having been marketed under strict terms by estate agents Walker Singleton.
The rectangular walled plot is surrounded by mature trees and protected by a covenant which says it must be kept as a graveyard, but has the potential to be used as a garden.
Sale conditions stipulate that the remains of 26-year-old Private PN Walker of the Army Service Corps, who died in 1918, and also the remains of Private P G Nicholson, who died in 1920, cannot be disturbed. Stone monuments cannot be disturbed without consulting the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. The plot must be kept tidy and accessible to those who wish to visit the graves.
