A CELEBRATORY Harvest Festival in the re-opened Haworth Parish Church will be staged this Sunday. (October 2)

The event will begin at 10.45am.

Church warden Diane Wilson said: "St Michael and All Angel's Church Haworth will celebrate its re-opening after the completion of the replacement of the roof on the north side of the church and, on the inside, at the church's western end, the addition of a unisex toilet and a disabled toilet together with a small kitchen.

"We will be joined by the congregation of St James' Church Cross Roads, and the congregation of Haworth West Lane Methodist Chapel for the service.

"This will be the annual Harvest Festival and will be combined with a 'Rushbearing Service', which used to be celebrated many years ago.

"Rushes would have been scattered on the church floor to refresh the earthen floor and signify new beginnings."
