A TALK is being given in Keighley next week about poet Gordon Bottomley.

Local historian Ian Dewhirst will speak at the Local Studies Library, North Street, at 11am on Thursday, October 6.

The free talk – Gordon Bottomley, Keighley's Neglected Poet and Playwright – is being held to coincide with National Poetry Day.

Mr Bottomley was born in 1874 and attended the Keighley Trade and Grammar School.

He went on to write work ranging from traditional lyrical verses to drama for church performances.

He died in 1948 and is commemorated with a blue plaque at the junction of North Queen Street and Cavendish Street in Keighley.
