WIND and rain forced a late change of venue for Silsden Allotment Association's annual show.

Yesterday's event was due to take place in a marquee at the allotment site, but was instead moved into the nearby youth and community centre.

"All worked out well in the end because the centre proved an ideal setting," said association chairman, John Cobb.

"We are very lucky to have such an excellent facility on our doorstep."

The number of entries in the show's horticulture, domestic and children's sections was down on recent years, due to a combination of the weather and holiday absences.

But judges Mrs Sue Bird and Mrs Lisa Preston praised the quality of those exhibits that were entered.

Certificates and trophies were presented by Silsden mayor, Councillor Peter Robinson. His wife, Hilary, received a bouquet of flowers.

The best-in-show accolade went to Linda Waterhouse, for a harvest basket of vegetables.

And Finlay Smith received a special award for a miniature garden in the children's classes.
