THE new chairman of Keighley Armed Forces Association (KAFA) says he is determined to ensure the group puts Keighley on the map.

Luke Davison, a former soldier who now works as a gas engineer, has taken over the role from former chairman and association founder Andy Spence.

Mr Davison left the army in 2014 and previously served in 3rd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. He did two tours of Afghanistan.

He said: "Our main effort will still be Keighley Armed Forces Day but we'd also like to run stalls and organise family fun days in Keighley town centre.

"We want to start selling KAFA merchandise to help get the word out there because we want more people to know about us and what we do."

Mr Davison, who is based in Haworth but previously lived in Stockbridge, stressed that KAFA is entirely run by volunteers adding that they have already begun organising the next Keighley Armed Forces Day.

The group's committee meets at 7.30pm on the last Thursday of each month at the Engineers Club, in Russell Street.

Mr Davison said anyone interested in getting involved is welcome to attend.

He added that KAFA will be campaigning on issues such as homelessness amongst ex-service personnel and improving the detection rate for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
