THE ACHIEVEMENTS of Keighley schoolchildren have been recognised by the town’s mayor.

Cllr Shabir Ahmed invited youngsters from the town’s primary schools to Keighley town hall for the presentation of this year’s Achiever Awards.

Every year each primary school is invited to nominate either one child or a group to receive the award for their special efforts in school throughout the year.

Each school receives a large shield with the child’s name engraved on it, and each child is given their own small engraved shield by the Keighley town mayor.

A spokesman said the Achiever Awards were becoming more popular each year and the ceremony was always well attended.

She said: “The mayor expressed how fantastic it was to celebrate the children’s achievements and their success. He thanked everyone for attending.

“With over 40 children nominated across 18 primary schools in the Keighley area, Keighley Town Council takes great pride in issuing these awards to the deserving children.”
