A WELL-KNOWN Keighley couple – who ran a bakery in the town for more than four decades – are celebrating their diamond wedding.

Malcolm and Beryl Rowland had the Victoria Road business for 45 years until their retirement.

"I managed the shop and he was the baker," said Mrs Rowland, 79.

"It was a proper bakers and Malcolm was known for making the best bread and teacakes in the area.

"We had people who were still coming in to the shop after 45 years. They were friends rather than simply customers."

The couple met as teenagers at a dancing school and married at Windhill Parish Church in Shipley.

They celebrate their 60th anniversary this weekend.

"I'm not sure there's one secret ingredient to a long marriage – but you have to be a stayer!" said Mrs Rowland.

The couple, of Selborne Grove, have five children and five grandchildren.
