A HAWORTH motorist stopped because he was driving without lights was over the drink-drive limit, magistrates heard.

Caleb Harrison, 26, of Minnie Street, was stopped by a police officer after he drove towards him on Lower Union Street, Skipton, on the evening of March 28 without his lights on, the court heard.

The officer suspected Harrison had been drinking, arrested him and took him to the police station where he was revealed to have 192 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, the legal limit is 80.

Harrison, who admitted drink driving, was surprised by the level of alcohol in his system, Skipton Court was told.

In mitigation, Paula Mawhinney said Harrison had been staying with a friend and was moving his car when he was stopped.

He worked with his father in car sales and would in future be restricted to valeting instead of driving to see vehicles.

Harrison was banned from driving for 20 months and fined £150, with costs of £85 and a surcharge of £20. If he completes a drink drivers rehabilitation course, his ban will be reduced by 20 weeks.
