MANORLANDS is adding some colour to its fundraising exploits.

A first-ever PaintRush is being staged in aid of the Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice.

Participants will be pelted or sprayed with seven shades of brightly-coloured paint powder as they run or walk around a 5km course.

The event, being organised by the hospice's Riddlesden support group, takes place at Marley playing fields on July 24.

"The work that the Sue Ryder healthcare team does – both at the hospice and in the local community – is incredible and we came-up with this event as a way for people to have a great day and raise funds to continue Manorlands' vital services," said group member Andrew Clark.

Sponsorship is being provided by Keighley-based McNally Electrical Yorkshire Ltd and JACS Trade and DIY, of Skipton.

Representatives from both companies, together with families which have already signed-up for the extravaganza, attended a technicolour launch of the fundraiser.

Nicky McNally, of McNally Electrical, said: "So many of our customers have benefited from the care that Manorlands hospice provides that we wanted to support it in this exciting new event."

And Gavin Haworth, of JACS Trade and DIY, added: "This event is for a great cause and ties in splendidly with the large range of paints we sell in our store."

There will also be a family colour fun day on the playing fields, with entertainment, a bar and refreshments.

Entry to the PaintRush costs £15 for adults and £10 for children, with discounts for family groups and corporate teams.

All participants will receive a special PaintRush T-shirt.

Manorlands supports patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families at the hospice and in the community, across an area covering Craven, Airedale and Wharfedale as well as parts of Bradford.

All services are free to patients and their loved ones, but it costs £8,000 a day to keep the hospice doors open.

Only a small part of the cost is covered by statutory funds.

Most of the funds have to be raised through voluntary donations.
