A MAN who sped down a potholed track in his wife's vehicle in a bid to escape the police has been sentenced to eight months imprisonment suspended for 12 months.

Asad Ishaq panicked when driving the black Hyundai on a retail park at Hard Ings Road, Keighley, at 7.25am on November 5 last year, Bradford Crown Court heard today.

He led police on a three-minute pursuit at up to 70mph in a 30mph zone before coming to a halt in Mornington Street when the car battery disconnected, prosecutor Nick Adlington said.

During the chase, Ishaq drove down a pedestrian track, hitting potholes.

After the car stopped, he waited in it for the police to arrest him.

Ishaq, 24, of Skipton Road, Keighley, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and having no licence or insurance.

He had been banned from driving two months earlier.

Ishaq's barrister, George Hazel-Owram, said he had a full-time job with an electrical wholesale company and his wife was pregnant.

There was no injury or damage during the short piece of dangerous driving.

Ishaq was banned from driving for two years, ordered to do 120 hours of unpaid work, undertake a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement and pay £500 prosecution costs.
