A KEIGHLEY town councillor has resigned her seat after just seven months on the council.

Barbara Archer, who represented Woodhouse & Hainworth ward, joined the town council in summer of last year.

Announcing her decision to stand down, she said: "My resignation as town councillor was accepted on February 1.

"I was co-opted onto the council in June 2015 but have decided that I can no longer continue.

"I give my sincere apologies to the people of Woodhouse and Hainworth and hope that someone from within their own community will step forward and represent their interests in the best way possible.

"I decided that it was time to go after seven months, as I believe that no conditions exist whereby I can influence any positive change."

Mrs Archer's departure leaves a vacancy which will be filled either via a co-option, or through a by-election if ten or more residents of the ward call for a public vote.

She said she would continue to campaign on planning and environmental issues as a member of the Braithwaite and North Dean Action Group.
