SILSDEN Co-op has donated a new freezer to Airedale Hospital's neonatal unit.

Families that have spent time in the unit visited the store, with nurse Joanne Turner, to voice their thanks.

Sarah Ramsden – a volunteer with Bliss, a charity that provides care and help for premature and sick babies and their families – had approached the Co-op to see if it could assist.

"The team manager Andrea Brown – who spent time in the unit 14 years ago following the birth of her daughter, Ellie – didn't hesitate and arranged everything without a second thought," said Mrs Ramsden.

"She said it was a pleasure to be able to support the unit.

"The freezer will create additional storage space for mums whose babies require expressed breast milk."

Mrs Ramsden and her husband, Matthew, visit the unit every week, providing a link between families on the ward and services provided nationally by Bliss.

She also co-runs the Bliss Leeds and Airedale family group, which meets on the last Friday of every month at Menston Children's Centre.
