TIME travel will entertain Wilsden residents during the village hall’s first film night.

The recently-formed Wilsden Entertainments Society will kickstart its new community cinema with a screening of family comedy Back To The Future.

Audience members will be invited to go along in fancy dress in the 1950s, when the film was set, or the 1980s, when it was made.

There will also be 1980s music, a quiz, licensed bar and sales of popcorn and hotdogs during the October 24 event.

The cinema is the first enterprise from the society, following extensive consultation amongst residents about what they would like to see in Wilsden.

Profits from the society’s events will go towards Wilsden Village Hall’s 40 Candles Birthday Appeal, which aims to raise £20,000 to refurbish the building.

Society spokesman, Lisa Firth, said: “If this event is successful, the group hopes to make Saturday Cinema a regular event, showing everything from new releases to popular classics.

“The film is being shown on the closest Saturday to the 'future' date travelled to in the Back To The Future series.

“We can’t provide hoverboards or flying cars, but we can give you a great movie night with a large 10ft screen, well-stocked bar, themed snacks and drinks and prizes for the best fancy dress.”

Lisa said the community cinema was a popular suggestion when the society distributed a questionnaire to villagers.

She added: “The entertainments society hope this first event will lead to a regular social film night once a month at the hall, as well as special screenings catering for specific groups, for example family-friendly and dementia-friendly events.

“The community will have the chance to vote on the next screening from a shortlist.”

Back To The Future (certificate PG) will be screened on October 24 at 7.30pm, with doors opening at 6.45pm.

The cost is £4 for adults, £3 for over-65s and £2 for under-14s. Under-threes get in for free. Under-12s must be accompanied by an adult.
