FUNDRAISING efforts to refurbish Wilsden’s well-used community centre have been highlighted to parish councillors.

A representative from Wilsden Village Hall Management Committee told ouncil members about the appeal to raise £500 for every year of the hall’s life.

Lisa Firth said the £20,000 appeal – entitled the 40 Candles Birthday Appeal – would completely refurbish the ageing building.

She said the committee had also formed the Wilsden Entertainments Society, which had six members and was planning events such as the community cinema.

The society's first event, a Back To School Quiz, would be held in the village hall on September 5.

After being asked whether the council might give a grant, Lisa was told the parish council had already given around £10,000 to help the village hall over the past three years.

Councillors agreed to look at a grant for a specific purpose, such as equipment for the community cinema.
