A FAMOUS Keighley & Worth Valley Railway loco has starred in a special celebration.

The Great Western Railway Pannier Tank 5775 featured in a cake-cutting ceremony marking what would have been the 157th birthday of Railway Children author, Edith Nesbit.

The engine shot to stardom after appearing in the novel's classic 1970 movie adaptation, filmed on the Worth Valley line.

It is currently at the Signal Box Theatre at the National Railway Museum in York, where the birthday celebration took place.

The locomotive was repainted at the museum's Shildon site last year in the fictional caramel-brown livery from the Lionel Jeffries movie.

And it is now part of a highly-acclaimed Railway Children stage production being put on at the Signal Box Theatre by York Theatre Royal.

Jim Shipley, for the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, said: "The Pannier Tank came to us in London Transport livery way back in 1968-69.

"It's not in service at the moment but is a great exhibit and is very popular.

"We're pleased it's forming part of the latest Railway Children production."

The production runs until September 5.
