A PLAQUE has been unveiled in Cross Roads Park in memory of a dedicated servant of the community who died in 2012.

The plaque, celebrating the life of former parish councillor Ian Shackleton, was formally dedicated on Sunday. It was unveiled by Haworth, Cross Roads and Stanbury parish councillor, Alan Watts.

Mr Shackleton was a parish councillor representing Cross Roads for 13 years, as well as being the 'play champion' for Bradford.

Present at the weekend's unveiling were members of his family and current Cross Roads councillors Tito Arana and Peter Clarke.

The event was also attended by parish councillors Peter Hill, Gary Swallow and John Huxley, together with Worth Valley ward councillors Glen Miller, Russell Brown and Rebecca Poulsen.

Mr Shackleton died of natural causes at his home in Alkincote Street, Keighley, in February 2012. He was 62 years old.

He had four sons from two marriages and, before moving to Keighley, had lived in Cross Roads and Haworth for many years. He devoted much of his public service to improving recreation facilities for children and young people.

He was a rural services development officer for the Yorkshire Rural Community Council, and had served on the commissioning sub-committee of the Big Lottery Fund’s Play Partnership.
