SOUTH Craven youngsters could turn over a new leaf.

Cross Hills library is hosting an activity as part of North Yorkshire's summer reading challenge.

Children can sign-up to the initiative at the library, between 10am and noon, on July 11.

And stories, games and crafts will be on offer from 2.30pm to 4pm on August 12.

Places at the event, which cost £1 per child, must be booked in advance.

The annual challenge, for children aged four to 11, this year has a record breakers theme.

Youngsters read six library books of their choice and collect stickers and other rewards.

On completion, each child receives a certificate and medal.

County Councillor Chris Metcalfe, executive member for library and information services, said: "The challenge is a great incentive to encourage children to read and use libraries over the summer.

"Last year in North Yorkshire, more than 10,000 children took part."
