EVENT organisers marking one year since the Tour de France passed through Silsden are gearing up to help provide a wealth of summer entertainment in the town.

Members of the Silsden Grand deParty group have reminded residents not to miss the series of community events due to begin next month.

Group spokesman, the Rev David Griffiths, said: "The first event is the Grand Day out in Silsden Park on Saturday, with fun activities for all the family.

"A week later, on July 11, there is a Showcase Silsden Day, which is an opportunity for Silsden residents to visit four town centre venues where many of Silsden’s societies, and voluntary and community organisations, will be on hand to demonstrate what they do.

"A craft fair in Silsden Town Hall at the same time will showcase local talent.

"The third weekend will be the Proms on the Farm on July 18 at Sycamore Farm in Brunthwaite. And Silsden has its annual gala on July 26.

"We'd like to say a big thank you to all the different groups who are organising Silsden community events during our Grand deParty month."

Silsden Storm, the town’s new under-tens rugby league team, will join Silsden’s Grand Day Out when they play their second-ever match on the park’s top playing field, kicking off at 10.30am on Saturday against Swillington.

The Grand Day Out will also feature Silsden Town Band at 12.30pm, running races, Becycling with its fun cycling obstacle course, Silsden Bowling Club’s open day and Silsden AFC Juniors.

There will be a display of photos of the park from days gone by, along with other park-related activities. The Park Day runs from 10am to 4pm.

Organisers of the showcase boast this year’s version will be bigger, with activities in Silsden town centre, Silsden Methodist Church, St James’s Church Hall and Mount Carmel House. The event will run from 10am into the afternoon on July 11.

The craft fair, organised by Been Busy and featuring local crafters and makers, will be in Silsden Town Hall, which will also host an art exhibition by Hothfield Junior School pupils.
