A 46-YEAR-OLD man hanged himself in his flat following the end of a relationship, an inquest heard.

Wayne Rees, originally from London, lived in Keighley with his partner before she ended the relationship in February, the Skipton inquest heard on Tuesday.

Mr Rees moved to a flat in Gargrave Road, Skipton, and was found dead less than a week later by two men carrying out work at the property on March 9.

The evening before, he had been visited by his former partner and her brother-in-law, who had received a worried call from one of his friends.

They had found him drinking whisky and in a confused state, and with a noose hanging from the open attic. After talking to him for three hours, and removing the strap, they had left, believing there was nothing more they could do.

The inquest heard Mr Rees had been diagnosed as bi-polar and had been treated for depression in the past.

Coroner Rob Turnbull, who recorded a verdict Mr Rees had taken his own life, said it was clear he had had difficulties in his life, but nothing substantial.

He had not left a note and had been sober when he had made the decision to take his own life.
