A BID to turn a disused barn on the St Ives Estate at Harden into homes has been refused by Bradford Council.

Karen Mills had applied to convert the 19th-century building at Home Farm on the estate into two, three-bedroom houses. The building, which is part of the stables on the estate, has a Grade II listing.

Harden Parish Council had not objected to the application, but Bradford Council’s heritage officer had raised concerns about how the housing would impact the rest of the site.

Planning officers said: “Conversion of this building could be prejudicial to the continued use or harm the potential for sustaining uses of the neighbouring listed buildings in the future.

"The likely formation of a domestic curtilage and resulting domestic paraphernalia would further dilute and harm the agricultural character of the group of buildings and the character of the historic landscape forming the St Ives Estate.”
