A KEIGHLEY community centre has praised the swift decision-making by grant bodies after its boiler broke.

Activities at the Sangat Centre in Lawkholme were badly affected after the ageing boiler stopped working before Christmas.

Centre manager Ghulam Rabani sought contributions from various organisations towards the £5,000 cost of replacement.

The Craven Trust agreed to give £1,000 and Keighley Area Committee, part of Bradford Council, approved a £500 grant.

Mr Rabani said: “The money was very helpful because our activities were very badly affected. We have a lot of groups using the centre.

“The decisions were very quickly. It was a freezing time of year so we were very grateful.”

The long-established Sangat Centre, in the former Swire Smith School gym in Marlborough Street, hosts several activities each day for different age groups.

These include children’s study support, toddler groups, health awareness and exercise sessions, aromatherapy and a day centre for men and women.
