VOLUNTEERS from both sides of a Keighley valley joined together to complete preparation work on a footpath linking their communities.
They spent last Saturday (February 21) working on the cat steps which link Braithwaite and Fell Lane across the North Beck valley.
Everything is now ready for professional contractors to begin work in April to bring the steps up to the proper standard.
Organisers of last Saturday’s event described the turnout from local residents as “absolutely fantastic”.
Ward councillor Jan Smithies said the volunteers finished cutting back vegetation around the cat steps, and digging a drainage channel.
She said: “There was a really excellent turnout from people living on both sides of the valley, especially children.
“I think word is getting out about what we’re doing and the potential for the area.”
Community development worker Pip Gibson said the residents were joined by young people from the JAMES activity project.
The next event on March 28 will involve planting up to 200 trees on the slopes of the valley, along with children’s play activities.
