POLICE are continuing to investigate suspected theft of income from Keighley Town Council's troubled North Street Civic Centre.

West Yorkshire Police confirmed this week that its officers were still looking into reports of missing takings and incomplete till readings.

As reported in last week's Keighley News. the police were first called in by the town council last month. (January)

Earlier this month (February) officers questioned two men, aged 24 and 37.

Neither the police nor the council have provided details of how much cash may have been taken.

However, minutes from a January 27 meeting of Keighley Town Council's civic centre committee mention "four days takings down", and that this matter had been referred to an "external contractor".

Keighley Town Council is also the subject of a separate investigation by West Yorkshire Police’s Economic Crime Unit.

This was prompted by Keighley MP Kris Hopkins who wrote to police after external auditors last year identified multiple failings in the council's finance and governance.
