RECENT snowfall resulted in an unexpected reappearance in a field in Oxenhope.

"The Leap", a giant piece of land artwork created for last year's Tour de France Grand Depart, was revealed again by the snow after fading away in October last year.

The artwork, designed by Louise Lockhart, portrayed a dancing woman to symbolise the liberating impact of the bicycle on women's lives during the Victorian era.

This formed part of the Fields of Vision project, which was organised to celebrate the theme of cycling and the beauty of the rural Yorkshire landscape. The project was spearheaded by the Worth Valley Young Farmers group.

The Leap was created by cyclists riding along the outline of the artwork, wearing the shape of the design into the grass and soil with their wheels.

Andrew Wood, of Worth Valley Young Farmers, said: "By late October you couldn't see it at all, but for some reason the snow didn't settle on the bare ground made by the cyclists.

"It even looked like she'd got long, wavy hair, because of the tyre tracks left by a farmer in the field above her!

"It was nice to see her come back. It brought back good memories of the busy time we had last summer."
