A FRIENDSHIP walk is being staged by a group which aims to foster community unity in Keighley.

Keighley Community Through Unity, launched via Facebook, is holding the eight-mile walk on Sunday (Feb 1).

Meeting at Keighley railway station at 10am, participants will catch a train to Saltaire and then walk back along the Leeds-Liverpool Canal towpath.

Everyone is welcome.

Paul Skinner, for the group, said: "We are a mixed bunch of people whose aim is to bring our town's communities closer together to support what is good and challenge what's bad.

"We have over 75 followers on Twitter and 166 members of our Facebook discussion group, but many more are needed."

He added that the group's social media presence had already been used for purposes ranging from supporting good causes to raising issues of concern with the West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner, Mark Burns-Williamson.

Anyone wishing to take part in the walk should wear suitable clothing and footwear and bring a packed lunch and drink.

People are asked to confirm their intention to attend by e-mailing paul.a.skinner@me.com or joining the Facebook discussion group facebook.com/groups/KeighleyCommunityUnity.
