THE FORMER Barclays Bank on Silsden’s main street could be turned into a cafe bar and grill.

A planning application has been submitted to Bradford Council to change the use of the building at 23 Kirkgate.

The Barclays branch closed in 2011 despite objections from Silsden town councillors.

Town and district councillor Adrian Naylor this week said he would like to see the boarded-up building be brought back into use after four years.

But he expressed concern about the potential new use of a property in the heart of the town.

He said: “We’re ending up with a lot of food-related establishments. What effect will that have on existing operations in Silsden?

“I’m not keen on Silsden being known as a place for takeaway is, cafes and grills. It needs a variety of shops and offerings on the high street.”

Two objections to the planning application have already been posted on the Bradford Council website by Silsden residents.

William Dodgson, of Oaktree Court, expressed concerns about potential parking problems, nuisance from customers, and an effect on local businesses.

Julia Yates, 14 Aire View, Silsden, expressed concern about potential noise and parking problems
