Laycock WI had practically a full house at last Thursday’s meeting – including four new members – as the president welcomed Mike Armstrong, Keighley’s own master baker, in what is now becoming an annual event. This time members were treated to the delights of making focaccia, and as they waited for the bread to progress, Mike made parkin pigs, which are declining in popularity and he is on a quest to bring them back. Reminders were given of the Blue Ginger outing today (Sunday) and numbers were confirmed for the Thai Christmas meal. Thanks were given to Susan Marsden and Dorothy Robinson for organising the group carol service on December 4, and an appeal was issued for volunteers to make mince pies for the event. Desserts were requested for the Christmas party. Those who attended the group social, hosted by Stanbury, had a fantastic evening. The star baker, judged by Mike, was Katrina Thackray, with Liz Kennedy second and Christine Bostock third. Barbara thanked Mike for another excellent evening. Next month is the Christmas party, and members were reminded to take presents for the secret Santa.
