Denholme

Sunday: Morning service at Denholme Shared Church, including Holy Communion, led by the Rev Liz May.

Denholme History Group will host an event on November 1 to commemorate the start of the First World War. There will be displays of local memorabilia relating to the war, along with stories of local interest, in the Mechanics Institute library from 10am to 3.30pm.

St Paul’s Wives will have a quiz night on Wednesday in the Forester Court lounge at 7.30pm. Non-members welcome.

Denholme United footballers will play in Foster Park on Saturday at 2pm. Supporters and spectators welcome.

The walking group will don jackets and stout shoes today for a ramble around the village. Meet outside the Mechanics Institute at 9.30am.

Cowling Moonrakers – Cowling Local History Group – has begun the indexing of archives for easier retrieval of information. It is anticipated a few months’ meetings will be taken up with the task. News was received of some old Wainman family letters from Carr Head Hall, which members hope to view soon. An archive loan review was carried out and a member appointed to be responsible for the loans. And more time was spent organising the programme of meetings and work for 2014-15.

The next meeting is on November 6 at the Bancroft Room, St Andrew’s Methodist Church, from 7.30pm to 9.15pm. Contact Moonrakers on 01535 637352 or via moon-rakers.co.uk.

Cowling Companions are sorry but we are having to cancel our planned outing to Castle Howard on December 4 through a lack of members and non-members wanting to go.

But your committee looks forward to seeing you on any of our other excursions in 2015.

Any member who would like to go to the Christmas lunch on December 13 in Cowling Village Hall should give their names to 01535 632023. Please state, at the time of putting your name forward, if you are a vegetarian.
