BANDAG members have told MPs their concerns about housing development in Keighley.

The local pressure group took part in discussions with members of the Communities and Local Government Committee.

BANDAG was among 60 groups across the UK invited to the seminar at Westminster last week.

Committee members want to know how the National Planning Policy Framework, introduced two years ago, is affecting housing development.

The framework influences how local authorities, including Bradford Council, deal with planning applications.

BANDAG spokesman Barbara Archer said groups were able to speak directly to committee members during round-table discussions.

She said: “We discussed aspects such as operation of the Planning Framework, provision of housing, local plans, and localism and consultation.

“We found that many comments of the participants reflected the same issues across the country.”

BANDAG handed over a folder containing its own research, and asked the committee to check whether the Localism Act was effective.
