A HAWORTH couple are on the hunt for an old reel to reel tape machine.

Jens Hislop, a retired police officer, has uncovered a collection of audio tape reels, but explained that he and his wife Andrea currently have no way of listening to them.

He said: "I unearthed a forgotten box of reel to reel audio tape recordings, along with my 60-year-old Grundig tape recorder that has not been used for maybe 40 years.

"Some of the tapes are commercially produced shows and operas, while some are personal family history and others may even be of local history.

"Many are unlabelled so we wonder what surprises are on them.

"The Grundig worked for about half an hour and we heard our wedding speeches from 1967, then it conked out!

"I've no idea what fault occurred, nor how to fix these machines. I believe reel to reel is now obsolete, so I wondered if any other Keighley News readers still have a working machine that we could try these tapes on."

Mrs Hislop said the audio tape reels had been inside a desk at the couple's home for at least 25 years before they were discovered.

"It would be nice to be able to hear what is on them," she said. I'm sure someone from the older generation has one of these tape machines in a bottom draw somewhere."
