A FOUR-year-old boy has died following a house fire in Keighley this afternoon.

The youngster, who has not been named, had been rushed to hospital suffering from serious injuries after inhaling smoke.

Another boy, aged 10, was also taken to hospital. His condition is improving and his injuries are described as non-life threatening.

Both boys had been brought out of the house, in Sunnyhill Grove, when emergency services arrived at the scene shortly after 2pm.

Two adults had also been in the property.

The blaze, which started in a back bedroom of the house and was confined to the room, is under investigation.

The alarm was raised after smoke was seen coming from the house.

Firefighters – called out just after the latest strike by Fire Brigades' Union members came to an end – attended from Keighley, Bingley and Silsden.

Station commander Andy Clayton, of Bingley fire station, said: "Our crews worked extremely hard with paramedics on the four-year-old boy, who had breathed in a considerable amount of smoke."

Police senior investigating officer, Det Supt Simon Atkinson, said: "Initial enquiries are underway with colleagues in the fire service to determine the cause of this fire and are at a very early stage.

"Clearly this has been a tragic incident in which a young child has lost his life and a full investigation will be carried out."
