ONE OF Keighley’s leading church ministers went on a ‘chat show’ to mark his retirement.

The Rev Peter Mott sat down with colleagues to publicly talk about his work as priest-in-charge of Keighley Shared Church.

Sitting in the town centre church he spoke about his achievements during 13 years in the post.

The service last Friday celebrated Mr Mott’s inter-faith and civic work, which has included raising more than £500,000 to improve the church building, ecumenical work with other local churches, and youth work.

On Sunday the church bells were rung in Mr Mott’s honour before the morning service, and again in the afternoon as a ‘quarter peal’, ringing six bells in a different order 1,260 times over more than 40 minutes.

Two visitors were Mr Mott’s former curate Rev Elizabeth Caissie, now retired, and the Ven. Paul Slater, Archdeacon of Richmond and Craven, who was a Keighley curate in the 1980s.

For the Holy Communion service Mr Mott served wine in the Burlington Chalice, from York Minster Treasury.

The congregation presented Mr Mott with cheques to buy a new lounge suite for the house he will be moving to in York.

The service was followed by a faith lunch in the church hall.
