A blaze destroyed several chicken sheds on a Silsden allotment.

Crews from Keighley fire station and Bradford were called out to tackle the incident, late this morning.

About four sheds, on a site in Sykes Lane, were affected.

The huts had housed ferrets as well as chickens, but all the animals were freed unharmed before firefighters arrived.

Because of the isolated location of the plot, crews had to park the fire appliances about 300 yards away and relay hose reels to the scene.

“We spent around two hours there,” said a fire service spokesman.

“The fire started when some controlled burning spread to the sheds.”
