One of the giant works of land art due to be created in the Worth Valley for the Tour de France will adopt a women’s emancipation theme.

Members of Worth the Tour group were updated on the latest news from the Fields of Vision project at their April meeting.

Fields of Vision is one of 47 commissions chosen for the cultural festival leading up to the Grand Depart. The land art initiative originated in the Worth Valley, and will feature eye-catching images in Hainworth, Stanbury and along the route of the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway. One of the images in Oxenhope would represent the role played by cycling in helping to secure greater independence for women in the Victorian era.

A group spokesman added: “The makers of the programme Countryfile will be coming on Thursday June 5 to visit the Oxenhope artwork – which will show a dancing lady.”
